Summertime, And The Living Are Busy

Wei wei, everybody! Summer has descended with quite blue skies and the accompanying 34 degrees, and my students are leaving town in droves. This clears up space and time for you.

But you don’t have to commit to regular, weekly lessons or anything like that – instead I’m arranging a lot of one-off sessions. The most exciting of which definitely being:

LEARN ENOUGH CANTONESE TO STAR IN A CANTONESE FILM. My good friend Trine in Oslo came up with this idea. We get a group of beginners or semi-beginners together, (minimum amount of people 4) study Cantonese for an hour and a half and then shoot a short film in Cantonese! You get a hard copy DVD and the right to decide whether the film should be put up on YouTube or not. The shooting will probably be on a Saturday.

Of course, old staple GUERILLA CANTONESE is still going strong: Learn everything you need about drinking in bars, and then go straight out to practise. Tried and tested, and almost too much fun for some!

LEARN CHINESE CHARACTERS WITHOUT REALLY TRYING: Also a one-off, this works for groups of any size as well as individuals. You learn how to look up characters in the dictionary and how to write them. It’s SO much easier than the Chinese tell you think!

SPECIAL NEEDS CANTONESE: No, not for people with learning difficulties, but a specially tailored one-off day or hour, dedicated to for example YAM CHA, going to the MARKET, going shopping in SHENZHEN, arguing with TAXI DRIVERS etc. Your need is my command.

One-on-one is good, but groups are more fun. So get some friends together to make ONE day this summer a CANTO DAY! Even knowing twenty words of this excellent language will make your life in Hong Kong a different and better experience. Oh yeah.
