Last Column

Yesterday I had an email from a … person, who said: “I sobbed vehemently when I saw your last Sunday Morning Post entry had come and gone.” Me too, mate, me too. Except I didn’t sob. I got pissed off, just like I did when my programme on RTHK, Naked Cantonese, came to an end. That’s my nature, or actually, the way I was brought up. We didn’t do sadness, only anger.

But now I can admit it, yes, I feel loss-induced sadness because I loved that column. Loved! Looking for material for it made China trips so much richer and even more surreal.

Now I have nothing.

But as they say, when one door closes, another one slams you in the face! So I have great hopes for the future. And of course the uphill battle of making Cantonese a world language becomes steeper and steeper every day, so there’s that.

琴日 – Kam yat (yesterday)
承認 – Seng yeng (admit)
唔開心 – M hoi sam (not happy)
